Turn on texting
Your number can send and receive text messages. Texts people send to it are forwarded to your email or your cell, and your assistant sends a test text once you confirm it.
Before you start
- The server connected to your AI app, with your VoIP.ms API credentials saved or the server running on your device. How to connect
- Access to these areas, granted when you connect:
- Send and read SMS messages
- View phone numbers
What to ask
Copy this into your AI app and replace each highlighted blank with your own details. Leave out a line you don't need; the assistant asks about anything missing.
Turn on text messages for my VoIP.ms number [your number] and send incoming texts to [email address or cell number]. Then send a test text to [a number to test with], after I confirm.
If your AI app lists the server's workflows (in Claude, the + menu), you can pick “Turn on texting for a number” (turn_on_texting) instead and fill in the same details.
What VoIP.ms charges
VoIP.ms charges $0.0075 per text sent; receiving is free. A US number that texts US phones also needs a business texting (10DLC) registration in the VoIP.ms portal, which has one-time fees.
VoIP.ms sets these prices; check its site for the current ones. This server's own plans are on the pricing page.
